WHAT IS SISTERHOOD ALLIANCE?

Sisterhood Alliance is an NGO with social enterprise elements that advocates social changes by empowering young girls and women with life skills and paving the way for intelligent and compassionate change makers to rise and make a difference.

Our Mission

Our Vision

Our mission is to improve the well-being of young girls and women in Malaysia by addressing social, health, economic, education and cultural issues concerning them, and promoting consciousness as well as positive growth and development through awareness campaigns and multimedia channels.

Our vision is to assist young girls and women to achieve their full potential by empowering them with knowledge and skills. For us, a woman is empowered by being educated. An empowered woman has sovereignty over her body, mind and soul. Thus, she is free to choose what is best for her.

Our Relevance

FACT: An average of 18,000 teen girls got pregnant every year; in which 25% or 4,500 cases were out of wedlock births. That equals 1,500 cases a month or 50 cases a day!

Sisterhood Alliance is here to nip this worrying situation in the bud. We also realize that apart from social issues, the lack of strong support system as well as limited resources and capacity are among the factors hindering the efforts to improve the well-being of women in Malaysia. With our network and pooled expertise, we are determined to fill in those gaps while turning our mission and vision into a reality.

Our Goal

Our main goal is to instill the following cultures and values in our beneficiaries:-

  1. Work as a team
  2. Build a positive team and family spirit
  3. Be a leader and follower
  4. Build an open and honest relationship
  5. Integrity
  6. Take initiative
  7. Create fun and a little laugh
  8. Accountability
  9. Passionate
  10. Embrace and drive

Our other goals are:-

  • To organize Let’s Get Social-For A Good Cause, a social entrepreneurship conference which aims at inspiring entrepreneurs, corporations and university students to commit in giving more (i.e. time, skills or money) for a good cause.
  • To establish the annual Roadmap To Womanhood, Sisterhood Alliance’s signature Girls’ Effects Conference which aims at creating a mentor/mentee community of young girls and women who support each other while going through teenage years.
  • To organize open discussions and support groups for teenagers.

Impact

Since inception, our various programs have impacted the livelihoods of 1,064 young girls aged between 12 and 17 years old. We aim to reach out to 1,000 young girls in 2017.
